Progress measurement sheet

For site and project engineers and quantity surveyors. Enter the contract items with their quantities and rates, and each quantity as it's measured. The sheet works out the % complete and the value to date of every line, and turns them into claim lines for the claim builder.

Runs on your device. Information, not legal advice.Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored, and there are no cookies. The project file is saved to your device when you choose, and loads into every other tool.

1. The contract items

One row per item: its quantity and rate from the contract or the estimate. Programme dates are optional; the weekly progress report uses them.

2. The measurements

The quantity measured each time, for one item. Name the site diary entry and the photos behind it, so a claim line can be traced back to them.

3. Progress and value to date

Set for you to the latest measurement's date. Change it to the last day of the claim period; anything it leaves out is listed below the sheet.

Add contract items, or load a project file, to see the sheet.

4. Make the claim lines

Each line carries its item ID and the IDs of the measurements behind it. They go into the project file as a claim; load the file into the claim builder to make the Word and PDF claim, without retyping a figure.

The period ends on the "measured up to" date above.

The CSV files paste into their own sheets of the free project workbook (Excel) or progress measurement sheet (Excel), at cell A5, where the formulas do the same sums.

How the figures are worked out (checked 1 Nov 2026)

  • Contract value = contract quantity × rate. Quantity to date = the sum of every measurement of the item up to the date. % complete = quantity to date ÷ contract quantity. Value to date = quantity to date × rate, to the cent.
  • Claimed before = the item's value to date on the last claim sent before this period. This claim = value to date less claimed before.
  • A payment claim must indicate the manner in which the claimed amount was calculated: Construction Contracts Act 2002, s20(2)(e). The claim lines set it out item by item.
