The reports
Gaps in a claim you're about to send?
Check before you send $195 (plus GST if applicable): every line against your contract and the documents behind it. Invoiced after delivery, due on the 20th of the month after the invoice.
Where the rules come from (checked 1 Nov 2026)
- Payment schedule and payment dates: the claim's own dates in the project file or, where it has only the served date, worked out as the deadline checker does: Construction Contracts Act 2002, s22(b) and s18, 20 working days unless the contract sets the time.
- Retention reports: s18FD(1) requires the holder to give the information "at least once in every 3 months until the retention money trust ends under section 18C(3)", and as soon as practicable after an amount becomes retention money. Read word for word on legislation.govt.nz (version as at 5 October 2023, the latest).
- Variation notices: contracts often set their own notice periods and procedures. The report flags a variation with no notice date recorded; it doesn't say what your contract requires.
- Diary gaps: weekdays with no diary entry, leaving out the days s5 of the Act lists (the public holidays it names and the region's anniversary day) and 24 December to 5 January. Your site may work other days, or close on more.
